Salt Lake County · Wasatch Front · 84065, 84096
A family-first city in the southwest Salt Lake Valley — established neighborhoods, top-rated schools, and a strong commercial corridor along Bangerter Highway and the Mountain View Corridor.
Riverton sits in the southwest corner of the Salt Lake Valley, bordered by South Jordan to the north, Bluffdale to the south, Herriman to the west, and the Jordan River and Draper to the east. Settled in 1865 by Mormon pioneers along the Jordan River, the city grew slowly through the late 19th and early 20th centuries as a farming community before becoming a residential hotspot during the southwest valley population boom of the 1990s and 2000s. Today Riverton has a population near 45,000 and a reputation as one of the most family-oriented, school-focused communities on the entire Wasatch Front.
The Riverton real estate market reflects that family identity. Established neighborhoods around Redwood Road and 12600 South offer 1990s and early 2000s family homes with mature landscaping, larger lots than what’s typical in newer developments, and consistent appreciation. The Riverton east bench toward the Jordan River provides view properties and larger custom homes. Newer construction continues along the Mountain View Corridor and on the city’s western flank as Riverton grows toward Herriman, with master-planned communities offering modern floor plans, neighborhood amenities, and direct highway access. Riverton’s sweet spot in the market: more home, more lot, and more family-friendly amenities than what comparable money buys closer to the central valley — a calculation that draws relocating families and growing households from across the Wasatch Front.
Beyond housing, Riverton has built a strong commercial and recreational base. The Mountain View Village shopping district, anchored by major retailers and a growing collection of restaurants, has become one of the most active commercial nodes in the southwest valley. Riverton Hospital provides regional medical anchor service. The Salt Lake Community College Jordan Campus serves educational needs. Major employers along Bangerter Highway include healthcare operations, distribution, and professional services. For recreation, the Jordan River Parkway Trail, Riverton City Park, and proximity to the Oquirrh Mountains and the under-development southwest valley trail system provide year-round outdoor access. Riverton’s annual Town Days festival every July remains one of the largest community events in southwest Salt Lake County.
