“City of Trees” — a historic Utah County community at the foot of Mount Timpanogos, blending one of the most preserved small-town Main Streets in the state with steady residential growth and prime Silicon Slopes proximity.
Pleasant Grove sits along the eastern shore of Utah Lake at the foot of Mount Timpanogos, tucked between American Fork to the west and Lindon to the south. Settled in 1850 by Mormon pioneers and originally known as Battle Creek for a skirmish with the Timpanogos Ute that took place in the area, the city was renamed Pleasant Grove for the cottonwood and box elder trees lining the creeks — and the “City of Trees” nickname has stuck for more than 170 years. Today the population is approaching 40,000, but Pleasant Grove has worked harder than most Utah County cities to preserve the small-town character that defined it through the 20th century.
The Pleasant Grove real estate market reflects that mix of preservation and growth. Established neighborhoods around historic Main Street, the Pleasant Grove Library, and the Battle Creek area offer character homes — many dating to the early 1900s — on tree-lined streets with mature landscaping and walkability that’s nearly impossible to find in newer Utah County construction. The east bench toward the Pleasant Grove Temple and Battle Creek Falls trailhead provides view properties and larger custom homes. South of Center Street, established 1980s and 90s family neighborhoods deliver accessible price points relative to the higher-priced new construction in Lehi and the canyon-mouth premiums in American Fork. Newer master-planned communities along the Pleasant Grove Boulevard corridor and toward I-15 continue to add inventory as the city grows toward Lindon. With Silicon Slopes and the Lehi tech corridor a five-minute commute up the freeway, Pleasant Grove has become a preferred destination for tech professionals who want the small-city character without the Lehi price premium.
Beyond housing, Pleasant Grove offers some of the most distinctive cultural and outdoor amenities in Utah County. The annual Strawberry Days festival every June — running since 1921 — is one of the longest-running community celebrations in the state. Battle Creek Falls and the trail leading to it are some of the most popular short hikes on the Wasatch Front. The Pleasant Grove Temple, the historic Carnegie library (now part of city hall), and the well-preserved Main Street commercial district anchor a downtown that genuinely feels like a small town. Schools fall under the Alpine School District — Pleasant Grove High has been a community institution for generations, with strong academic and athletic programs. With direct I-15 access, proximity to American Fork Canyon and Timpanogos Cave National Monument, and the kind of walkable, tree-lined neighborhood character that defines the best of small-town Utah, Pleasant Grove is one of the most distinctive cities on the Wasatch Front.
