Taylorsville sits in the central Salt Lake Valley, bordered by West Valley City to the north, Murray to the east, Midvale and West Jordan to the south, and Kearns to the west. Settled in 1848 by Mormon pioneers and named for early settler John Taylor, the city was a quiet farming community for more than a century before becoming part of the post-war suburban expansion that reshaped the entire Salt Lake Valley. Officially incorporated in 1996 from a long-established township, Taylorsville now has a population near 60,000 and a solidly residential, family-oriented character that distinguishes it from its more commercial neighbors.
