A central west-side Salt Lake County city — home to Salt Lake Community College’s largest campus, established family neighborhoods, and one of the most accessible real estate markets on the central Wasatch Front.
Taylorsville sits in the central Salt Lake Valley, bordered by West Valley City to the north, Murray to the east, Midvale and West Jordan to the south, and Kearns to the west. Settled in 1848 by Mormon pioneers and named for early settler John Taylor, the city was a quiet farming community for more than a century before becoming part of the post-war suburban expansion that reshaped the entire Salt Lake Valley. Officially incorporated in 1996 from a long-established township, Taylorsville now has a population near 60,000 and a solidly residential, family-oriented character that distinguishes it from its more commercial neighbors.
The Taylorsville real estate market is one of the most accessible and stable in central Salt Lake County. Established neighborhoods built through the 1970s and 80s offer well-maintained family homes with mature landscaping at price points significantly below the east bench. The Bennion area on the city’s eastern edge provides slightly higher-priced inventory with proximity to the I-215 corridor and central valley access. Newer infill development continues throughout the city, particularly along the Bangerter Highway corridor and the redevelopment areas around 4700 South and Redwood Road. Taylorsville’s value equation — central valley location, accessible price points, established schools, and easy access to all directions of the metro — makes it one of the consistent landing spots for first-time buyers, growing families, and households relocating from out of state.
Beyond housing, Taylorsville has built a distinctive civic and educational profile. Salt Lake Community College’s Taylorsville Redwood campus — the largest of SLCC’s campuses — serves more than 30,000 students across Utah and is a major regional educational anchor. The Bennion Junior High and Taylorsville High (Granite School District) have long served the community. The city’s commercial base along Redwood Road, 5400 South, and Bangerter Highway includes regional shopping, dining, and the central-valley professional services that define the area. Valley Regional Park, the Jordan River Parkway Trail, and proximity to the Oquirrh Mountains provide outdoor access. With central I-215, I-15, Bangerter Highway, and SR-201 connectivity, Taylorsville is one of the most logistically convenient cities in the entire Salt Lake Valley — a quiet residential anchor surrounded by major commercial corridors on every side.
