The fourth-largest city in Utah and the anchor of the southwest Salt Lake Valley — a fast-growing community where established neighborhoods, the Jordan Landing retail core, and Mountain View Corridor development continue to reshape the city year after year.
West Jordan sits in the southwest corner of the Salt Lake Valley, the fourth-largest city in Utah and one of the fastest-growing communities of its size in the state. Founded in 1850 along the Jordan River, the city was a quiet farming and small manufacturing community for more than a century before the late-20th-century population wave transformed it into the residential anchor of the southwest valley. Today it spreads from the Jordan River and I-15 west across to the Oquirrh Mountains, with a population north of 116,000 and a real estate market that’s seen some of the most consistent growth in Salt Lake County.
The housing market here covers nearly every price point on the Wasatch Front. Established neighborhoods around 7800 South and Redwood Road offer 1980s and 90s family homes with mature landscaping at accessible prices. Newer construction along the Mountain View Corridor and on the western edge of the city provides modern floor plans, master-planned community amenities, and direct access to the highway corridor that’s becoming the spine of southwest valley growth. The Daybreak Sandy/South Jordan border, Jordan Landing, and the Bingham Junction redevelopment area continue to add housing inventory at a pace that keeps West Jordan one of the more accessible markets compared to the east bench. Median prices have climbed steadily, but West Jordan still offers more home for the money than Sandy, Cottonwood Heights, or Holladay just to the east.
Beyond housing, West Jordan punches above its weight commercially. Jordan Landing is one of the largest open-air shopping districts in Utah, anchoring the city’s retail core. The Salt Lake Community College Jordan campus, Jordan Valley Medical Center, and major employers including Cabela’s, JetBlue’s regional support center, and dozens of distribution and manufacturing operations along the SR-201 corridor make West Jordan a serious commercial player. Veterans Memorial Park, Conservation Garden Park, and Oquirrh Lake (just over the Daybreak border) anchor the recreational scene. With Trax light rail, FrontRunner access, and the under-construction Mountain View Corridor expansion, West Jordan is one of the most transit-connected and growth-positioned cities on the Wasatch Front.
